from Las Vegas to Lone Pine or Whitney Portal on any day of the week.

a rental car to Ridgecrest, then take the Shuttle to Lone Pine or the Portal.

rental car to Ridgecrest, 2 buses to Lone Pine on MWF, Shuttle to the Portal.
4. Take 2 buses to Lone Pine on Mon., Wed., or Fri., then Shuttle to the Portal.
These options are ranked from high to low in terms of time savings, convenience, and dollar cost. The option with the lowest cost in dollars will cost the most time wise.
Four Travel Options:
1. Shuttle
from Las Vegas to Lone Pine or Whitney Portal on any day of the week.
The Mt. Whitney Shuttle Service can pick you up from McCarran International airport and take you directly to your choice of destinations in the Lone Pine area or up to Whitney Portal on any day of the week. Advance reservations are strongly recommended. The LV airport is at least a 4 ½ to 6 ½ hour, 300+ mile drive from Lone Pine depending upon the route taken, so it is at least a 9 to 13-hour, 600+ mile round trip for the driver and van.
2. Take
a rental car to Ridgecrest, then take the Shuttle to Lone Pine or the Portal.
You can pick up an Avis rental car in Las Vegas and drive it to the Avis car rental agency in Ridgecrest. The Avis office is located at 901 N. China Lake Blvd. in the Carriage Inn complex at the corner of China Lake Blvd. and Drummond Ave. The Mt. Whitney Shuttle can pick you up from Avis and take you directly to your choice of destinations in the Lone Pine area or up to Whitney Portal on any day of the week.
3. A
rental car to Ridgecrest, 2 buses to Lone Pine on MWF, Shuttle to the Portal.
You can pick up an Avis rental car in Las Vegas and drive it to the Avis car rental agency in Ridgecrest. The Avis office is located at 901 N. China Lake Blvd. in the Carriage Inn complex at the corner of China Lake Blvd. and Drummond Ave. The City Transit bus departs from Ridgecrest City Hall at 3:4 0 p.m. to meet the CREST South bus when it arrives in Inyokern and then departs at 4:05 p.m. The City Transit bus will stop for you at the Carriage Inn a few minutes later if you have made a reservation. A bus pass for the short ride from Inyokern to Ridgecrest costs $2.50. Contact the City Finance Department at (760) 499-5020 for passes. For specific questions, contact City Transit at (760) 499-5040.
You can take the CREST South bus that departs at 4:05 p.m. to Lone Pine for $15.50, or for $29 if you are going up to Mammoth Lakes. The Mt. Whitney Shuttle can pick you up in Lone Pine and take you up to Whitney Portal on any day of the week.
4. Take 2 buses to Lone Pine on Mon., Wed., or Fri., then Shuttle to the Portal.
If you fly into Las Vegas, you will need to take your choice of ground transportation methods from the airport to the Downtown Bus Terminal. See the GROUND TRANSPORTATION section of the home page of the McCarren International Airport website for more information on taxicabs, shuttles and limos, and public transportation in order to compare your options.
A Greyhound bus (#6007) going to Los Angeles will depart from the Downtown Bus Terminal at 9:30 a.m. It will stop in Mojave at McDonalds, and then depart at 1:55 p.m. You also could take the Orange Belt Stages (OBS) bus #93 going to Hanford that leaves the Terminal ten minutes later (at 9:40 a.m.) and follows the same route and makes the same stops as the Greyhound bus as far as Mojave. Although both buses will get you to Mojave at almost the same time, you may find more advance reservation discount tickets with Greyhound.
From McDonald’s, walk two and a half blocks south to Carl’s Jr. There, you can take the Crest South bus on its way to Mammoth Lakes. It departs at 3:00 p.m. You can have the Mt. Whitney Shuttle Service meet you at the bus stop in Lone Pine and take you directly up to Whitney Portal, or you can make arrangements to be taken up there at some other time if you prefer.
